As Milton Friedman states, the only societies that have really gotten out of poverty is when acting out of self interests. This is one of the best answers I’ve ever heard in terms of the idea of greed:

Being 100% selfless is just as dangerous as being 100% selfish. To think that G-d doesn’t want you to act out the gifts that he bestowed upon you is ridiculous.

Half the country doesn’t believe capitalism works.

Paraphrasing from Winston Churchill here, capitalism is NOT perfect, it’s just better than all the rest.

Government is necessary to prevent coercion and corruption, however, you don’t need a huge centrist bureaucracy taking power away from the people.

JFK, seen as a liberal by most, said this famous quote: “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” What he is stressing is the idea of personal responsibility, which is the only thing that climbs people out of poverty.

It’s a very easy concept to want to share to everyone, it’s a very HARD practice. Do you really think everyone will pull their weight when that happens?

You cannot just take things for face value that because you take from someone doing well and give it to someone who isn’t doing as well, the problem is fixed. You are fixing the symptoms, not the roots. You must look at the ripple effects when it comes to everything you want to fix.

Everyone is equal in terms of respect, we are NOT all equal in terms of our habits! Of course some have it harder than others, but you empower them through some assistance and most importantly, you educate them to want to change their habits.

The argument for socialism, when it comes down to it, is that government is better at spending your dollar and making choices for you than you are. Like Donald Trump or not, but when he talks about the Obamacare website costing $2.5 billion when it costs him a few hundred bucks, a light bulb should go off with how wasteful they are. They take care of their friends.

The government is full of career politicians who never ran a real business before. That’s why when Governor Cuomo writes a plan that sounds good on paper, it flops costing $53 million to create 76 jobs.

Most people who vote do not understand economic policy. As Mark Dice illustrated here, many Americans don’t even know our basic history. It’s trouble for the country when you go into the voting booths based on some cute speeches about hope and change when you don’t know what an interest rate is. Now if you are voting to increase taxes because you studied Keynesian economics, hey, now we can have a debate.

Margaret Thatcher put it pretty good though here: “The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.”

It’s easy to want to change America. The Constitution gives you life, liberty, and the PURSUIT of happiness. The most fundamental idea of that concept is what I capitalized. That there is NO GUARANTEE! You get to pursue it. You want the guarantee of living in a concrete bunker or you want a chance to get the mansion with Greek columns in front and the cobble stone driveway? Millions of people came over here for a reason. It offered a more prosperous opportunity than the country they left.

My friend received this email over the weekend and sent it to me:

“Just wanted to wish you and your family (an early) happy 4th
of July! (If you are in the US, of course).

I don’t know if you know this about me or not, but
I wasn’t born in America.

Born and raised in Russia

Lived there until I was 12.

Then, thankfully, we got the hell out.

Terrible economy,

Unbelievable corruption,

And a massive lack of opportunities –

these were all reason enough to go.

Even though I didn’t spend my whole life in the US, I
don’t think you’ll find too many people that
are more proud to be an American than me.

We live in the greatest country on earth, hands down.

Sure we are not perfect.

Sure there are big problems.

We can all find faults and things to complain about, and rightly so!

But living here beats 99% of other places!

As far as I’m concerned, anyone who constantly bitches and moans
about problems with America has never been outside of its

And as someone that is pretty well-traveled, I can tell
you that I’d never live anywhere else but here.

I’ve been shaken down by dirty cops in broad daylight on
3 different continents for bribes.

I’ve seen the kind of real, widespread poverty and class inequality
that makes America’s inner city housing projects look like luxury resorts.

I’ve seen friends with first class educations and amazing hustle all over
the world get absolutely nowhere because they don’t come from the right
social background or are simply held down by massive corruption.

When they say America is the land of opportunity, it’s the truth.

I don’t care the color of your skin, religion, or socio-economic background.

This is still THE place in the world where if you work hard and kick ass,
you’ll be rewarded.

We moved here with absolutely nothing when I was 12.

My dad, who had graduate school education in Russia, was forced to
do back-breaking work assembling bowling alleys at AMF because
he didn’t speak the language.

My mom worked 24/7 just to keep us fed and clothed while she
restarted her medical career completely from scratch alongside
medical students half her age.

I wore secondhand clothing donated to us all through middle school.

But my parents knew from day one that all sacrifices they (and other immigrants)
made to get here were worth it…

Because their children would grow up in America.

And guess what? It paid off.

Because now I am literally playing monopoly for a living, putting
up new buildings and managing a $10 million+ portfolio of real estate
that ensures neither I or anyone in my family will have to struggle again.

So enjoy this holiday and try not to forget how lucky we
all are to live here.

There is so much opportunity, now more than ever, that if you don’t
take advantage of it, you can only blame yourself.

Happy 4th!”

Let’s take a lesson here.
