Your brain is linking up any type of you being pushed – going through any type of pain, any type of stress – and it’s linking it to be like a type of physical pain. But there is a difference between physical pain and physiological pain. If you push yourself with good stress, you are going to grow stronger. There is bad stress, called distress, which is damaging, debilitating, and is going to take a while just to recover back to normal. That is obviously stress that you want to avoid. But the good stress, called eustress, is where you get a reward from it.
